The tire size may be defined as follows:
- 225 is the width of the tire in millimeters.
- 60 is the aspect ratio, which is the peak of the tire sidewall as a percent of the width.
- R stands for radial, which is the construction of the tire.
- 18 is the diameter of the wheel in inches.
As for replacing 225/60R18 tires with 225/55R18, it’s technically possible; however, it’s important to note that the overall diameter of the tire will decrease, which may affect the speedometer analysis. The 225/55R18 tires are 0.89 inches (22.5 mm) smaller in diameter than the 225/60R18 tires, and the speedometer difference is 3.1%.
